Ook, leader of the Kozaru during the Twilight Era.

The Kozaru are a species of monkey indigenous to the Faron Woods within the Faron Province of the kingdom of Hyrule. It is unknown how long they have existed, although the forest they resided in existed at least between the Sky Era and the Twilight Era and they may have been around during this entire period of time. Their species appear to display sexual dimorphism, as their king possesses Baboon-like traits, though he is obviously just another Kozaru to the close observer.

Kozaru naturally inhabit the Faron Forest Temple, and the surrounding forest. They rarely venture outside of this forest but have been known to be a nuisance to the inhabitants of Ordon Village. However, this seems to be on purpose as a desperate attempt to get the locals to help them in their plight against the Twilight and they otherwise seem to be friendly towards Humans and Hylians. They are known to be a sapient species, and not only can wield weapons such as the Gale Boomerang but also sport tattoos of the ancient Kokiri symbol; they also show understanding of how light can hold back poisonous fog. Though these tattoos led some archaeologists to consider them as having an evolutionary connection to the Kokiri, this does not seem to be the case and may instead show a form of paganistic worship of the strange symbols on their part. It is possible that they worship the Light Spirit Faron, who takes the appearance of a glowing Kozaru-like monkey with a greatly elongated tail.

Kozaru are strong as one would expect from a primate, and can swing human-sized individuals across chasms with relative ease. Their natural racial weapon appears to be Bomblings and they greatly dislike the Diababa that has overtaken their home territory and poisoned their water supplies. They are also notably susceptible to twilight infection by way of parasitic arachnids attaching themselves to the monkeys' heads.
